My Poppies

  Corn Poppies --Papaver rhoeas,

These volunteer all over my lot.  In early spring I transplant some of the poppies to places I want them, but the most magnificent ones are those that are allowed to grow where they want to grow.

Most of my corn poppies range from dark red to orange-red, but every once and a while I get a pink one.

Papaver somniferum var. paeoniflorum

These are not well adapted to the heat we get here in coastal North Carolina, but I grow a few just to see their very impressive flowers before the heat knocks them back.
