North Carolina Flood Maps

Folks in eastern North Carolina should be pretty interested in knowing the level of flooding risk for their property. A useful online resource is the North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program. Check it out. From the base page, click on Digital Flood Maps. Select the Zoom In tool and click your way to your property. You can screen-capture (Alt-Print Screen) the maps and paste them into an editor (like the Microsoft Photo Editor) and crop them and then save them, as I did to create the images below. In the last image you can see my house.  I outlined my lot in red.

Also interesting is TerraServer-USA.  I entered my latitude and longitude to get a photo of my lot.  The photo which was returned was dated March of 1993, before my house was built.  You can see a trailer on the lot.
