My otorhinolaryngologist advised that it takes a while to find the combination of treatments that works for a patient, not the same combination works for every patient, and with time the combination that works for a particular patient can change. Here is what works for me:
Sinus Surgery -- no more often than absolutely necessary, thank you.
Nasal Irrigations -- once or twice a day.
Systemic Steroids -- I used to use Kenalog, but my doc no longer prescribes this.
Intranasal Steroids -- some get good relief with larger doses. I am using fluticasone.
Astelin -- intranasal antihistamine
Nasal Decongestants - oxymetazoline, used sparingly for short-term relief of total congestion
Allergen Avoidance -- easier said than done.
Immunotherapy (Allergy Shots) -- if allergies contribute to the problem, then immunotherapy may help.
OTC Antihistamines -- Loratadine or cetirizine.
Leukotriene Modifier Therapy -- I have been using Singulair, but now my health plan is discouraging use of it.
Alternative Treatments -- I have tried several, with little or no success.
