SCHOLARSHIPS/AWARDS/GRANTS

 

The NCDA Foundation is honored to manage the scholarship/award/grant funds for NCDA, Inc. A description of each is listed below.  Please share this information with interested students and colleagues. 

 

General Information

Scholarship and award information will be sent to colleges, universities, and district presidents by mid-November.  February 15 is the deadline for the NCDA Scholarship committee to receive complete application packets.  The Marjorie M. Donnelly Award applications are accepted three times a year, until March 1 (for the period March 1 – June 30); July 1 (for the period July 1 – October 31); and November 1 (for the period November 1 – February 28).  Awards will be announced in May.  For further information, please contact:

Nancy Williams Didactic Program in Dietetics Scholarship ($1000)

The NCDA, Inc. Nancy Williams Didactic Program in Dietetics Scholarship provides financial assistance to a student whose career goals are in dietetics.  Funds for the scholarship are derived from the interest accrued from endowed funds from contributions and funds designated by the NCDA Foundation (NCDAF) Board.  The individual chosen to receive the scholarship must be a resident of North Carolina and attending a North Carolina college or university.  Those enrolled in an approved didactic program in dietetics must complete the knowledge requirements established by ADA during the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded in order to apply.  The recipient must have a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0, demonstrated leadership activities in the university or community and have potential as a professional dietitian. 

 

Supervised Practice Scholarship ($1000)

The NCDA, Inc Supervised Practice Scholarship provides financial assistance to a student who has been accepted into a supervised practice program, an internship or coordinated program accredited by ADA.  Funds for the scholarship are derived from interest accrued from endowed funds from contributions and funds designated by the NCDAF Board.  The individual chosen to receive the scholarship must be a resident of North Carolina and attending a North Carolina college or university.  The recipient must have a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0, demonstrated leadership activities in the university or community and have potential as a professional dietitian.

 

Graduate Scholarship for Registered Dietitians ($1500)

The NCDA, Inc Graduate Scholarship for Registered Dietitians was established in memory of Annette L. Moore-Delilah Siler Scholarship Fund and from individual contributions.  The scholarship is available only to registered dietitians who are active members of ADA.  The recipient must be currently enrolled in or applying for admission to a graduate program of administrative food service, business administration, institutional management, public health administration or nutrition education and have completed two years of successful employment in the dietetics profession; be a resident of North Carolina a minimum of two years prior to application and demonstrate leadership potential in the profession of dietetics and a strong commitment to academic achievement.  The recipient will work in North Carolina for one full year to fulfill scholarship requirements or, in the event this is not possible, refund scholarship monies. 

 

Marjorie M. Donnelly Award ($150)

The Marjorie M. Donnelly Award, established to honor Mrs. Marjorie Donnelly of Raleigh, North Carolina, provides financial assistance to dietitians for continuing education or academic credit.  Funds for the awards are provided in the annual budget of the NCDA Foundation.  Each individual chosen for this award must be a current member of NCDA, Inc.  The award will be granted for participation in those events that are professionally beneficial, such as those sponsored by ADA, NCDA, District Associations, Allied Health and Graduate Seminars.  One award will be granted for each of the following periods:  November 1 – February 28, March 1 – June 30, and July 1 – October 31.
